Surprisingly, she is able to convince those in charge, of picking her instead of Zoe for the Moroi mission, and is soon on her way to California where she joins Adrian, Eddie and Jill at Amberwood Prep, a boarding school meant for humans. Even though Sydney is herself finding it difficult to do what she really desires to, as against her Alchemist teachings, she decides to do all that is needed to stop her sister from adopting the alchemists’ ways of life. The story begins with her being rudely awakened by the Alchemist who has requested that Zoe, her younger sister be a part of a secret Moroi mission.
